The Planargia PGI is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Rosé and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Production Area

The production area of Planargia PGI is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Giba, Masainas, Narcao, Nuxis, Perdaxius, Piscinas, Santadi, S. Anna Arresi, Tratalias, Villaperuccio and Teulada in the Province of Sud Sardegna in the Sardinia region.

Blends

White, red and rosé wines with the Planargia PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region.

Description of product typologies

Planargia PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of variety, is straw-yellow in colour; the nose offers a range of fragrances between exotic and dried fruit; in the various dry and sweet typologies, the palate is smooth and embracing. It can be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Planargia PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of variety, is ruby-red to garnet in colour; the nose displays fragrances of fruit, flowers, balsamic and brushwood; in the various dry and sweet typologies, the palate is warm, embracing and harmonious. It can be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Planargia PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of variety, is pink in colour; the nose displays moderate floral and fruity fragrances of blueberry; in the various dry and sweet typologies, the palate is fresh, smooth and lively. It can be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Planargia PGI Novello, alone or with specification of variety, is purple-red to ruby-red in colour; the nose bursts with fragrances of marasca cherry and red fruit; it is medium-sweet to dry, rounded and smooth on the palate, with medium-body.

Grape variety specifications

The Planargia PGI, with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region, excluding the Cannonau, Carignano, Girò, Malvasia, Monica, Muscat, Nasco, Nuragus, Semidano, Vermentino and Vernaccia varieties, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Non-aromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other varieties suitable for cultivation in the region, max. 15%, can contribute to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Planargia PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the region can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine, as well as Novello for wines obtained from red grapes. Planargia PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
