The Nurra PGI is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Rosé and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Production Area

The production area of Nurra PGI is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Alghero, Ittiri, Olmedo, Ossi, Porto Torres, Sassari, Stintino, Tissi, Uri and Usini, in the Province of Sassari, the Sardinia region.

Blends

White, red and rosé wines with the Nurra PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more red/white grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area.

Description of product typologies

Nurra PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from paper-white to amber-yellow in colour; the nose offers the floral and fruity fragrances of the grape varieties used; it can range from dry to sweet on the palate. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Nurra PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is smooth ruby-red to garnet in colour; the nose is reminiscent of small forest fruits, blueberry and wisteria, with the addition of spicy notes; it is dry, pleasantly tannic and balanced on the palate and can range from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Nurra PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from pale to deep pink in colour; the nose displays evident notes of cyclamen, small ripe fruit and spices, as well as vegetal notes; it is fresh and smooth on the palate, with a fruity finish and ranging from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Nurra PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from red with purple highlights to ruby-red in colour; the nose is fruity and typical of young, evolving wines; the fruitiness of the nose returns on the palate, offering a balanced wine that ranges from dry to medium-sweet.

Grape variety specifications

The Nurra PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region, with the exclusion of the Cannonau, Carignano, Girò, Malvasia, Monica, Muscat, Nasco, Nuragus, Semidano, Vermentino and Vernaccia grape varieties, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Non-aromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Nurra PGI wines with the specification of one of the grape varieties can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine and Novello if the wine is obtained from red grape varieties.Nurra PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
