The production area of Nizza PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Agliano Terme, Belveglio, Calamandrana, Castel Boglione, Castelnuovo Belbo, Castelnuovo Calcea, Castel Rocchero, Cortiglione, Incisa Scapaccino, Mombaruzzo, Mombercelli, Nizza Monferrato, Vaglio Serra, Vinchio, Bruno, Rocchetta Palafea, Moasca and San Marzano Oliveto in the Province of Asti, in the Piedmont region.

Description of product typologies

Nizza PDO is deep ruby red in colour, tending towards garnet with aging; the nose is intense and ethereal, revealing fragrances of red fruit; it is round, dry, full-bodied and harmonious on the palate. It may display Riserva on the label.
Nizza PDO must undergo a minimum aging period of 18 months, of which at least six months must be in wooden barrels. The aging period commences on January 1st of the year following the harvest.
Nizza PDO Riserva must undergo a minimum aging period of 30 months, of which at least 12 months must be in wooden barrels. The aging period commences on January 1st of the year following the harvest.

Additional specifications

The Nizza PDO designation can be followed by Vigna (Vineyard) with the relative toponym.
