The Nettuno PDO is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Rosé and Novello. The Designation also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Nettuno PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Nettuno and Anzio in the Province of Rome, in the Lazio region.
Blends
White (incl. Semi-Sparkling): 30-70% Bellone (locally known as Cacchione), 30-50% Trebbiano Toscano, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 20%.Red, Novello: 30-50% Merlot, 30-50% Sangiovese, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 20%.Rosé (incl. Semi-Sparkling): min. 40% Sangiovese, min. 40% Trebbiano Toscano, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 20%.
Description of product typologies
Nettuno PDO Bianco is pale straw-yellow in colour, varying in depth; the nose displays fragrances of wisteria that are joined by sensations of fresh and mashed fruit, wild herbs and minerals; it is sapid and rich on the palate with good persistence. It can also be produced as a Semi-Sparkling wine.Nettuno PDO Rosso has a ruby-red colour that can be intense at times; the nose offers fragrances of delicate flowers and medicinal herbs; the palate displays an intense and pleasant tannic vein. Nettuno PDO Rosé is pink in colour, varying in intensity and at times taking on a ruby-red tone; it is delicate on the nose, with evident aromas of red rose petals and redcurrants; harmonious fruitiness together with a spring bouquet give the palate a dry, delicate and lively flavour.Nettuno PDO Novello is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose offers persistent aromas of red fruit with evident tones of raspberry and fruits of the forest, blending together with floral sensations; the aroma and flavour on the palate reflect those of the nose creating a fresh and lively taste. Wines with indication of grape variety have the aromas and taste that are typical of the grape. The vinification processes must take place within the production area.
Grape variety specifications
The Nettuno PDO may display the specifications of the following grape varieties. From white grape varieties (incl. Semi-Sparkling): min. 85% Bellone (or Cacchione), pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 10%.The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.
Additional specifications
The Nettuno PDO designation can be followed by Vigna (Vineyard) with the relative toponym.
