The Narni PGI is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Rosé, White Passito, Red Passito, Passito Rosé, Red Novello and Rosé Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Production Area

The production area of Narni PGI is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Attigliano, Giove, Penna in Teverina and parts of Alviano, Amelia, Guardea, Calvi dell’Umbria, Lugnano in Teverina, Montecastrilli, Narni, Otricoli, Sangemini and Terni, in the Province of Terni, in the Umbria region.

Blends

White, red and rosé wines with the Narni PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more grape varieties similar in colour and suitable for cultivation in the Umbria region.

Description of product typologies

Narni PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is yellow in colour; the nose is delicately floral and fruity; it is dry and fresh on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Narni PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose is fruity and delicate, with a characteristic fragrance; it is full, dry and sapid on the palate. Narni PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; the nose displays floral fragrances and delicate suggestions of red fruit; it is fragrant and sapid on the palate, with a pleasant bitter aftertaste. Narni PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is yellow to amber in colour depending on the age of the wine; the nose is intense with hints of ripe fruit; it is characteristic, dry and sapid on the palate. Narni PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red in colour, varying in depth and at times tending towards garnet; the nose is intense and characteristic; it is harmonious, sweet and velvety on the palate. Narni PGI Novello Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose is vinous and delicate, with characteristic aromas; it is dry and sapid on the palate with good body. Narni PGI Novello Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; the nose is fruity, delicate and vinous; it is dry, fresh and pleasantly harmonious on the palate.

Grape variety specifications

The Narni PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lazio region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Narni PGI with the specification of two grape varieties is reserved for wines obtained from corresponding grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from the indicated grapes and that the quantity of grapes produced by each of the varieties is higher than 15% of the total. The grape varieties must be indicated on the label in descending order, in respect to the actual contribution of the grape.Narni PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
