The Montenetto di Brescia PGI is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Production Area

The production area of Montenetto di Brescia PGI is within the territory of the municipalities of Azzano Mella, Borgosatollo, Capriano del Colle, Castenedolo, Flero, Poncarale in the Province of Brescia, in the Lombardy region.

Blends

White: Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Trebbiano; the addition of grapes from grape varieties similar in colour and suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, individually or combined, is permitted in the production of the above-mentioned wines and musts. Red: Marzemino, Barbera, Cabernet, Merlot, Sangiovese; the addition of grapes from grape varieties similar in colour and suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, individually or combined, is permitted in the production of the above-mentioned wines and musts.Novello: min. 70% Marzemino, Merlot, Sangiovese; the addition of grapes from grape varieties similar in colour and suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, individually or combined, is permitted in the production of the above-mentioned wines and musts, max. 30%.

Description of product typologies

Montenetto di Brescia PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow in colour, varying in depth; the nose offers varying degrees of fruity fragrances depending on the grape variety used; it is dry, sapid and fresh on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour and good persistence. It can also be produced as a Semi-Sparkling wine. Montenetto di Brescia PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red in colour with garnet highlights; the nose is delicate, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit, traces of spices and aromatic herbs and an aromatic complexity deriving from the grape varieties used; it is dry, sapid and full-bodied on the palate with pleasing tannins. Montenetto di Brescia PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, is bright ruby-red in colour with possible purple highlights; the nose is pleasing with characteristic fruity notes; it is pleasantly fresh and harmonious on the palate.

Geographical and sub-area specifications

The Montenetto di Brescia PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lombardy region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Montenetto di Brescia PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
