The Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO is reserved for the following typologies of wine: Lambrusco Semi-Sparkling Red, Lambrusco Semi-Sparkling Rosé, Red Spumante and Spumante Rosé.

Production Area

The production area of Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Modena, in the Emilia-Romagna region.

Blends

Red (Semi-Sparkling), Rosé (Semi-Sparkling), Red Spumante, Spumante Rosé: min. 60% Lambrusco di Sorbara, max. 40% Lambrusco Salamino, with the possible addition of other Lambrusco grapes, individually or combined, max. 15%.

Description of product typologies

Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO Rosso Frizzante is pale ruby-red in colour with bright pink foam; the nose displays fruits of the forest, raspberry and violet; it is lively, fruity, clean and pleasantly acidulous on the palate. Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO Rosato Frizzante is pink in colour, varying in intensity and with lively and sparkling foam; the nose is pleasing, fruity and characteristic; it is dry, medium-sweet or medium-dry, semi-sweet or sweet on the palate, and rich with sapidity and freshness.Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO Spumante Rosso is ruby-red or garnet in colour, with varying intensity and fine and persistent foam; the nose is pleasing, fine and gentle, rich with floral, ample and complex notes; it is dry, medium-sweet or medium-dry, semi-sweet or sweet on the palate, and rich with sapidity and freshness. Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO Spumante Rosato is pink in colour, with varying intensity and fine and persistent foam; the nose is pleasing, fine and gentle, rich with floral, ample and complex notes; it is dry, medium-sweet or medium-dry, semi-sweet or sweet on the palate, and rich with sapidity and freshness. The vinification and preparation of sparkling and semi-sparkling wines must take place within the territory of the Province of Modena. Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO Spumante and Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO Frizzante wines must be obtained by natural fermentation/secondary fermentation in bottles or natural fermentation/secondary fermentation in autoclaves.

Additional specifications

It is mandatory for Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO Frizzante and Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO Spumante wines to display the residual sugar content on the label.Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO Frizzante and Lambrusco di Sorbara PDO Spumante rosé wines must display “Rosato” on the label.
