The Lago di Corbara PDO is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Passito and Late Harvest. The Designation also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Lago di Corbara PDO is within the entire territory of the Municipality of Baschi and parts of the Municipality of Orvieto, in the Province of Terni, in the Umbria region.
Blends
White (incl. Riserva), Passito (incl. Riserva), Late Harvest: min. 60% Grechetto and Sauvignon, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 40%.Red (incl. Riserva): min. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Merlot and/or Pinot Nero and/or Sangiovese, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 30%.
Description of product typologies
Lago di Corbara PDO Bianco is straw-yellow in colour with green to gold hues, tending towards amber with aging; the nose displays fragrances of acacia and broom which are enriched by aromas of ripe fruit and aromatic herbs; it is predominantly fresh and sapid on the palate. Lago di Corbara PDO Rosso has a ruby-red colour, varying in intensity; the notes of red fruit and moss are accompanied by good minerality on the nose; the palate is fresh and tart with reminiscences of fruit and sweet tannins. It can display Riserva on the label if the wine has undergone a mandatory aging period in wood of at least 12 months. Lago di Corbara PDO Passito varies from golden yellow to amber in colour; the nose is intense and characteristic; it is medium-sweet-to-sweet on the palate, harmonious and velvety. Lago di Corbara PDO Vendemmia Tardiva is golden-yellow, varying in intensity; the nose is characteristic, at times with hints of honey; it is velvety on the palate, ranging from medium-sweet to sweet. Lago di Corbara PDO Rosso wines cannot be made available for consumption before September 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced; Lago di Corbara PDO Rosso Riserva wines the date is September 1st of the second year following that of the grape harvest. Lago di Corbara PDO Passito and Lago di Corbara PDO Vendemmia Tardiva wines cannot be put on the market before January 31st of the year following the harvest, and Lago di Corbara PDO Bianco Riserva wines not before September 30th of the year following that in which the grapes were produced. Before being made available for consumption, Lago di Corbara PDO Passito Riserva wine must have undergone a mandatory aging period of at least 2 years, of which a minimum of 3 months must be maturing in bottles, commencing December 15th of the year in which the grapes were produced.

Lago di Corbara PDO may display the specifications of the following grape varieties. From white grape varieties (incl. Riserva): min. 85% Vermentino, Grechetto, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%.From red grape varieties (incl. Riserva): min. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Nero, Sangiovese, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%.The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.
