Production Area

The production area of Lago di Caldaro PDO or Caldaro PDO (Kalterersee PDO or Kalterer PDO) is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Autonomous provinces of Bolzano and in the Autonomous Province of Trento.

Blends

Red: Schiava Grossa and/or Schiava Gentile and Schiava Grigia; other grape varieties, similar in colour and suitable for cultivation the autonomous provinces of Bolzano and Trento, may be present in the vineyards, max. 15%.

Description of product typologies

Lago di Caldaro PDO or Caldaro PDO (Kalterersee PDO or Kalterer PDO) is pale to medium ruby-red in colour; the nose displays characteristic fragrances of flowers, pansy and rose, and small red fruit, with notes of balsamic and brushwood; it is smooth, harmonious and pleasing on the palate, with a slightly almondy finish. It can display Classico, Classico Superiore, Scelto (Selection - Kalterersee Auslese in German), Scelto Classico and Scelto Classico Superiore on the label.Lago di Caldaro PDO or Caldaro PDO (Kalterersee PDO or Kalterer PDO) wine qualifies as Classico if it is obtained from grapes with a minimum natural alcohol level of 10,5 and may display Classico Superiore if the grapes have been matured for a suitable period of time. Lago di Caldaro PDO or Caldaro PDO (Kalterersee PDO or Kalterer PDO) wine obtained from grapes with a minimum natural alcohol level of 11% and put on the market with a minimum natural alcohol level of 11,5% can display Scelto (Auslese in German).

Additional specifications

The Lago di Caldaro PDO or Caldaro PDO (Kalterersee PDO or Kalterer PDO) designations with the mention Classico or Classico Superiore may also display the additioned specification “Alto Adige” (Südtirol in German) on the label.
