The Isola dei Nuraghi PGI is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red and Rosé, White Spumante, Red Spumante, Spumante Rosè White Passito, Red Passito, White from Uve Stramature (overripe grapes), Red from Uve Stramature and Novello. The Designation also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

The production area of Isola dei Nuraghi PGI is within the entire territory of the Sardinia region.

Blends

White, red and rosé wines with the Isola dei Nuraghi PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more red/white grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area.

Description of product typologies

Isola dei Nuraghi PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of variety, is paper to amber-yellow in colour; the nose offers floral and fruity fragrances; it is dry-to-sweet on the palate, fresh with a fruity flavour and good persistence. It can also be Semi-Sparkling wine. Isola dei Nuraghi PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of variety, is pale to intense ruby-red in colour; the nose is delicate, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit, aromatic herbs and the balsamic complexity of the grapes used; it is dry-to-sweet on the palate, fizzy, sapid with good body and at times evident tannins. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Isola dei Nuraghi PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of variety, is pink in colour; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with the characteristics of the varieties of origin. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Isola dei Nuraghi PGI Spumante Bianco, alone or with specification of variety, is paper white to yellow in colour with a fine and persistent perlage; the nose is characteristic of the grapes used; it ranges from dry-to-sweet on the palate. Isola dei Nuraghi PGI Spumante Rosso, alone or with specification of variety, is pink in colour with persistent foam; the nose offers fragrances that are typical of the grapes used; it ranges from dry to sweet on the palate. Isola dei Nuraghi PGI Spumante Rosè, alone or with specification of variety, is pale pink to deep pink in colour with a fine and persistent perlage; the nose offers characteristic fragrances of the grapes used; it ranges from dry to sweet on the palate. Isola dei Nuraghi PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of variety, is yellow in colour with various shades of amber; it is characteristic on the nose; it ranges from dry to sweet on the palate. Isola dei Nuraghi PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of variety, is deep red to garnet in colour; its fragrance is intense and characteristic; on the palate it ranges from dry to sweet.Isola dei Nuraghi PGI Bianco da Uve Stramature, alone or with specification of variety, is yellow to amber in colour; it is characteristic on the nose; it ranges from dry to sweet on the palate. Isola dei Nuraghi Rosso da Uve Stramature, alone or with specification of variety, varies from pale ruby-red to garnet-red in colour, tending towards orange with aging; the nose is characteristic; it ranges from dry to sweet on the palate. Isola dei Nuraghi PGI Novello, alone or with specification of variety, varies from red with purple highlights to ruby-red in colour; the nose is characteristic of a young wine; it is dry-to-medium-sweet on the palate.

Grape variety specifications

The Isola dei Nuraghi PGI, with specification of one of the varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region, excluding Cannonau, Girò, Nasco, Nuragus e Semidano, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Grapes similar in colour and originating from other varieties suitable for cultivation in the region, max. 15%, can contribute to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Isola dei Nuraghi PGI wines with specification of variety, must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
