The production area of Grottino di Roccanova PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Roccanova, Sant’Arcangelo and Castronuovo di S. Andrea in the Province of Potenza, in the Basilicata region.
Blends
White: min. 80% Malvasia Bianca di Basilicata, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 20%. Red (including Riserva): 60-85% Sangiovese, 5-30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5-30% Malvasia Nera di Basilicata, 5-30% Montepulciano,, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 10%. Rosé: 60-85% Sangiovese, 5-30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5-30% Malvasia Nera di Basilicata, 5-30% Montepulciano, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 10%.
Description of product typologies
Grottino di Roccanova PDO Bianco is straw-yellow in colour; the nose displays notes of flowers and white fruit; it fresh on the palate, with an aromatic flavour and long persistence. Grottino di Roccanova PDO Bianco wine can only be made available for consumption after a mandatory aging period of 5 months, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Grottino di Roccanova PDO Rosso is dark ruby-red in colour with orange highlights if aged; the nose offers fragrances rich with traces of fruit, sweet tobacco, liquorice, leather, dark chocolate and spices; it is warm, rounded and persistent on the palate, with an intense tannic flavour. It can display Riserva on the label if the wine has been aged for 36 months in wine caves, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. The mandatory minimum maturing period for Grottino di Roccanova PDO Rosso is 9 months, commencing November first of the year in which the grapes were harvested. Grottino di Roccanova PDO Rosé is pink in colour; the nose is intense and rich with fruity notes; it is dry, fresh and balanced on the palate. It can be made available for consumption after the wine has been aged for a mandatory period of 5 months, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced.
