The Galatina PDO is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Rosé, and Novello. The Designation also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Production Area

The production area of Galatina PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Lecce, in the Apulia region.

Blends

White (incl. Semi-Sparkling): min. 55% Chardonnay, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 45%.Red, Rosé (incl. Semi-Sparkling), Novello: min. 65% Negroamaro, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 35%.

Description of product typologies

Galatina PDO Bianco has a delicate straw-yellow colour; the nose displays light fruity notes of peach, ripe white fleshy fruit, aromatic herbs and wild flowers, and is fresher with yeasty hints in the Semi-Sparkling typology; it is fruity, intense, sapid and mineral on the palate. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Galatina PDO Rosso has a ruby-red colour; fragrances of red fruit follow one another on a background of aromatic, leather and dark chocolate sensations; it is warm and embracing on the palate, with harsh tannins and a long fruity finish. Galatina PDO Rosé has an intense pink colour; the nose offers floral and fruity bon-bon fragrances; it is fresh on the palate, with a blend of fruity, aromatic and balsamic notes.Galatina PDO Novello is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose is vinous, characteristic, pleasing and intense; it is dry, full, harmonious and fruity on the palate, and can be lively at times.

Grape variety specifications

The Galatina PDO may display the specifications of the following grape varieties. From white grape varieties: min. 85% Chardonnay, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. From red grape varieties (incl. Riserva): min. 85% Negroamaro, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.
