The Forlì PGI is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Rosé (incl. Slightly and semi-sparkling), White Spumante, Spumante Rosé, Red Passito, Novello and partially fermented grape Must. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

The production area of Forlì PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Blends
White, red and rosé wines with the Forlì PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area.
Description of product typologies
Forlì PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow in colour, varying in depth; the nose offers various degrees of fragrances, with fruity, floral and spicy notes, depending on the varietal composition and cultivation area; it is dry and fresh on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour and good persistence. It can also be produced as Frizzante (Semi-Sparkling) and Vivace (slightly sparkling) wine. Forlì PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit, traces of spices and aromatic herbs, and a balsamic complexity deriving from the grape variety used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, with good body and at times evident tannins, ranging from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as Frizzante (Semi-Sparkling) and Vivace (slightly sparkling) wine. Forlì PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; the palate is dry, harmonious and fresh, ranging from dry to sweet, with the characteristics of the grape variety of origin. It can also be produced as Frizzante, Vivace or Spumante wine. Forlì PGI Spumante Bianco is straw-yellow in colour; the nose offers fresh floral and fruity notes which can be associated with hints of bread crust, varying in intensity according to the length of time spent maturing on the lees; it is fresh and rich with sapidity on the palate, ranging from brut nature to sweet. Forlì PGI Spumante Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in tone and intensity; it displays fruity and floral notes on the nose, accompanied by aromas correlated to the length of time spent maturing on the lees; the palate is fresh and sapid, ranging from brut nature to sweet. Forlì PGI Passito Rosso is ruby red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose displays fruity notes accompanied by floral notes of violet and hints of spices; it is dry and balanced on the palate, ranging from dry to sweet. Forlì PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, is bright ruby-red colour; the nose is vinous with evident fruity notes; it is pleasantly smooth and acidic on the palate. For the typologies in the partially fermented grape Must category, on consumption the characteristics must correspond to those described above for the relative wines, although the taste is always sweet.
Grape variety specifications
Forlì PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Non-aromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned wines. Forlì PGI wines with the specification of one of the authorised grape varieties may also be produced as white, red and rosé Vivace (slightly sparkling) and Semi-Sparkling wines, red Novello wine, as partially fermented grape Must for white, red and rosé wines and as Spumante exclusively for white wines. Forlì PGI with specification of two authorised grape varieties is reserved for the relative wines under the conditions provided for by European regulations, including Vivace, Frizzante and, exclusively for white wines, Spumante, partially fermented grape Must for white, red and rosé wines, and, exclusively for red wines, Novello. Forlì PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
