The Conegliano Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO or Conegliano - Prosecco PDO or Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO is reserved for the following typologies of wine: Tranquillo, Semi-Sparkling and Spumante.

Production Area

The production area of Conegliano Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO or Conegliano - Prosecco PDO or Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO is within the territory of 15 municipalities in the Province of Treviso, in the Veneto region.

Blends

Conegliano Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO or Conegliano - Prosecco PDO or Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO must be obtained from vineyards of the Glera grape variety, with the possible addition of, in a business environment, Verdiso, Bianchetta Trevigiana, Perera, Glera Lunga, max. 15%. For Spumante (Superiore), wines obtained from the vinification of Pinot Bianco, Pinot Nero, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay grape varieties, pure or combined, is permitted, as long as the product contains at least 85% wine originating from the Glera variety.

Description of product typologies

Conegliano Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO or Conegliano - Prosecco PDO or Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO Tranquillo has a delicate straw yellow colour; the nose offers fragrances of apple, pear, almond and mille-fiori honey, with vegetal, mineral and bread-crusty hints; it is fresh, sapid, creamy and slightly bitter on the palate. Conegliano Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO or Conegliano - Prosecco PDO or Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO Frizzante is straw-yellow in colour, varying in intensity, bright and with an evident development of bubbles; it is pleasing and characteristically fruity and floral on the nose; the palate is fresh, harmonious, fruity and pleasantly fizzy. In the Frizzante (Semi-Sparkling) typology, which is traditionally produced with fermentation in bottles, there is the possibility of a film on the wine. In this case, “rifermentazione in bottiglia” (secondary fermentation in bottles) must be displayed on the label. Conegliano Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO or Conegliano - Prosecco PDO or Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO Spumante Superiore is straw-yellow in colour, varying in intensity, bright, with persistent foam; it is pleasing and characteristically fruity on the nose; the palate is fresh, harmonious, pleasantly fruity and characteristic. It may display Superiore on the label, as well as Millesimato (Vintage) if the wine has been produced with at least 85% of grapes from the year of reference, which must also be displayed on the label. It can be put on the market in all of the typologies, with the exclusion of Extra-brut and Sweet.

Geographical and sub-area specifications

The Conegliano Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO or Conegliano - Prosecco PDO or Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO can be accompanied by the sub-geographical designation Conegliano Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO or Conegliano - Prosecco PDO or Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO Superiore di Cartizze, reserved exclusively for Spumante and obtained from grapes that have been harvested between the districts of S. Pietro di Barbozza (named Cartizze), Santo Stefano and Saccol, in the Municipality of Valdobbiadene. The wine is straw-yellow in colour, bright and with persistent foam; it is pleasing and characteristically fruity on the nose; the palate is fresh, harmonious, pleasantly fruity and characteristic.

Additional specifications

The Conegliano Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO or Conegliano - Prosecco PDO or Valdobbiadene - Prosecco PDO designation, in the Spumante typology, may display references to municipalities or districts within the production area, on the condition that they are accompanied by the word “Rive”.
