The Colline Frentane PGI is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Rosé (incl. Semi-sparkling), White Passito, Red Passito, Red Novello and Novello Rosé. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Production Area

The production area of Colline Frentane PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Chieti, in the Abruzzo region.

Blends

White, red and rosé wines with the Colline Frentane PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more red/white grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area.

Description of product typologies

Colline Frentane PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow in colour, varying in depth; the nose offers various degrees of floral and fruity fragrances, depending on the grape varieties used; the palate it is dry, sapid and fresh. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Colline Frentane PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit, hues of spices and aromatic herbs and aromatic elegance deriving from the various grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, at times with evident tannins and good body. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Colline Frentane PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; the palate is dry, harmonious and fresh, with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Colline Frentane PGI Passito Bianco is yellow in colour, tending towards amber with aging; it displays intense and rich fruity notes on the nose; the palate it is dry and sapid with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. Colline Frentane PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red tending towards garnet in colour, varying in depth; its fragrance is intense and characteristic of the grape varieties of origin; on the palate it is harmonious, sweet and velvety. Colline Frentane PGI Novello Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red colour, with light purplish highlights; the nose is rich with fruity sensations; it is fresh and velvety on the palate. Colline Frentane PGI Novello Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; it displays a delicate fragrance on the nose; it is harmonious, fresh and velvety on the palate.

Grape variety specifications

The Colline Frentane PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Colline Frentane PGI with two grape variety specifications is reserved for wines obtained from corresponding grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from the indicated grapes, and that the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two is higher than 15% of the total. The grape varieties must be indicated on the label in descending order, in respect to the actual contribution of the grape. Colline Frentane PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
