The production area of Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Udine, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
White: max. 85% Picolit, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, with the exclusion of aromatic Traminer.
Description of product typologies
Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit PDO is golden-yellow tending towards amber in colour; the broad range of fragrances on the nose begin with acacia honey and lead to candied citron, papaya and sugared almond; on the palate it is smooth yet robust, balanced and with a good amount of freshness.Vinification and bottling must take place within the production area; the grapes may be dried on the vines and/or trellises and/or in open chests or in locations with temperature and/or humidity and/or forced ventilation control systems.

The Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit PDO can be accompanied by the Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit PDO Cialla sub-geographical designation.Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit PDO Cialla is golden yellow in colour; varying in intensity; it is delicately fragranced and characteristic on the nose, sometimes with a note of Passito wine; it is supple or sweet, warm, harmonious and delicate on the palate, with possible hints of wood. It may display Riserva on the label if the wine has undergone an aging period of at least 4 years, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced.The wine cannot be made available for consumption before September 1st of the second year following that of the harvest.Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit PDO Cialla is obtained exclusively from grapes originating 100% from the Picolit grape variety.
