The Colli di Rimini PDO is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White and Red; Passito (only with indication of grape variety). The Designation also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Production Area

The production area of Colli di Rimini PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Rimini, in the Emilia-Romagna region.

Blends

White: 50-70% Trebbiano Romagnolo, 30-50% Biancame and/or Mostosa, pure or with the addition of other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 20%, of which a maximum of 5% can be aromatic white. Red: 60-75% Sangiovese, 15-25% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the possible addition of Merlot and/or Barbera and/or Ciliegiolo and/or Terrano and/or Montepulciano and/or Ancellotta, max. 25%.

Description of product typologies

Colli di Rimini PDO Bianco is straw-yellow in colour; the nose offers a delicate fragrance, ranging from fruity to floral; it is dry, sapid and harmonious on the palate. Colli di Rimini PDO Rosso is intense ruby-red in colour; the nose displays an ample and characteristic fragrance; it is dry yet full-bodied on the palate, sometimes slightly tannic.

Grape variety specifications

The Colli di Rimini PDO may display the specifications of the following grape varieties. From white grape varieties: min. 85% Biancame, with the possible addition of Pignoletto and/or Chardonnay and/or Riesling Italico and/or Sauvignon and/or Pinot Bianco and/or Müller Thurgau, max. 15%. Rébola (incl. Dry, Amabile, Sweet, Passito): min. 85% Pignoletto, with the possible addition of Biancame and/or Mostosa and/or Trebbiano Romagnolo, max. 15%. From red grape varieties: min. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese (incl. Superiore, Riserva), pure or with the addition of other black grape varieties, max. 15%. Colli di Rimini PDO Biancame is yellow in colour with greenish highlights; it is characteristic on the nose and sometimes displays floral notes; it is dry fresh and balanced on the palate. Il Colli di Rimini PDO Rébola varies from pale straw to golden in colour for Dry wines and to amber for Amabile (Semi-sweet), Dolce (Sweet) and Passito wines; the nose offers delicately fruity fragrances that are more intense in Passito; it is velvety, harmonious, pleasing and dry, supple or sweet on the palate. Colli di Rimini PDO Rébola Passito is obtained from grapes that have been dried on trellises, in thermo-conditioned areas or with forced ventilation. Colli di Rimini PDO Cabernet Sauvignon is deep ruby-red in colour; the nose displays characteristic fragrances that are pleasantly grassy; it is dry, full and harmonious on the palate, at times with tannic notes. Colli di Rimini PDO Sangiovese is ruby-red in colour, sometimes with purplish highlights; it is vinous and sometimes floral on the nose; on the palate it is dry, harmonious, sometimes with tannic notes. Colli di Rimini PDO Rébola, Colli di Rimini PDO Cabernet Sauvignon and Colli di Rimini PDO Sangiovese may display Riserva on the label if the wine has undergone an aging period of at least 24 months, at least 2 months of which must be passed in bottles, commencing December 1st of the harvest year.
