The Colli del Sangro PGI is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red and Rosé (incl. Semi-sparkling), White Passito, Red Passito, Red Novello and Novello Rosé. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

The production area of Colli del Sangro PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Chieti, in the Abruzzo region.
Blends
White, red and rosé wines with the Colli del Sangro PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more red/white grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area.
Description of product typologies
Colli del Sangro PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow in colour; it offers varying degrees of fruity fragrances on the nose, based on the various grape varieties used; on the palate it is dry and sapid, with a slightly fruity flavour and good persistence. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Colli del Sangro PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red in colour; the nose is delicate, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit and aromatic elegance deriving from the grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, sometimes with evident tannins and with good body. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Colli del Sangro PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape variety of origin. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Colli del Sangro PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is yellow in colour, tending towards amber with aging; it displays intense fruity notes on the nose; on the palate it is dry, sapid, with the characteristics of the grape variety of origin. Colli del Sangro PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red to garnet in colour, varying in intensity; it is intense on the nose with characteristic notes of the grape variety used; on the palate it is harmonious, sweet and velvety. Colli del Sangro PGI Novello Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red in colour, with faint purple reflections; its fragrance is pleasantly fruity; it is fresh and velvety on the palate. Colli del Sangro PGI Novello Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; it is pleasantly fruity on the nose; on the palate it is fresh and velvety.
Grape variety specifications
The Colli del Sangro PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Non-aromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Colli del Sangro PGI with specification of two grape varieties is reserved for wines obtained from corresponding grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from the indicated grapes, and that the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two is higher than 15% of the total. The grape varieties must be indicated on the label in descending order, in respect to the actual contribution of the grape. Colli del Sangro PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
