White, red and rosé wines with the Colli Aprutini PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more red/white grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area.
Description of product typologies
Colli Aprutini PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of one or two grape varieties, is straw-yellow in colour; it offers intense and fruity fragrances on the nose, based on the various grape varieties used; on the palate it is dry and sapid, with good persistence. It can also be Semi-Sparkling wine. Colli Aprutini PGI Rosso is ruby-red in colour; the nose offers characteristic fragrances of red fruit and aromatic elegance deriving from the grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, sometimes with evident tannins, and has good body. It can also be Semi-Sparkling wine. Colli Aprutini PGI Rosé is pink in colour, varying in intensity; it displays fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry and harmonious on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape variety of origin. It can also be Semi-Sparkling wine. Colli Aprutini PGI Passito Bianco is yellow in colour, tending towards amber with aging; it displays intense fruity fragrances on the nose; on the palate it is dry and sapid. Colli Aprutini PGI Passito Rosso is red to garnet in colour, varying in depth; its fragrance is intense and characteristic; on the palate it is harmonious, sweet and velvety. Colli Aprutini PGI Novello is ruby-red in colour with slight purple reflections; it is pleasantly fruity on the nose; the palate results as harmonious, fresh and velvety. Colli Aprutini PGI Novello Rosé is pink in colour, varying in intensity; it is pleasantly fruity on the nose; the palate results as harmonious, fresh and velvety.
Grape variety specifications
The Colli Aprutini PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Grapes similar in colour and originating from other non-aromatic grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Colli Aprutini PGI with the specification of two grape varieties, is reserved for wines obtained from corresponding grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from the indicated grapes, and that the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two is higher than 15% of the total. The grape varieties must be indicated on the label in descending order, in respect to the actual contribution of the grape. Colli Aprutini PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
