The Atina PDO is reserved for the following typologies of wine: Red, Red Reserve, Cabernet, Cabernet Reserve, Semillon. The Designation also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Atina PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Frosinone, in the Lazio region.
Blends
Red (including Riserva): min. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, min. 10% Syrah, min. 10% Merlot, min.10% Cabernet Franc, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 20%.
Description of product typologies
Atina PDO Rosso is red in colour, varying in intensity; the fruity fragrances are characteristic of the base grape variety; it is harmonious, full-bodied and dry on the palate, with a delicate fruity aftertaste in the finish. Riserva can be displayed on the label if it has undergone 2 years of aging, 6 months of which in wood, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. The Atina PDO Semillon has a straw yellow colour, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate with floral and fruity notes; it is dry, sapid, smooth and persistent on the palate, with the typical characteristics of the grapes and terroir of origin. The vinification of the wines, including the mandatory aging, must be carried out within the administrative territories of the municipalities, in whole or in part, of the grape production area.
Grape variety specifications
The Atina PDO may display the specifications of the following grape varieties. From white grape varieties: min. 85% Sémillon, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%.From red grape varieties: min. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Cabernet Franc, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%.The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.
