The Alta Langa PDO is reserved for the following typologies of wine: Spumante and Spumante Rosé.

Production Area

The production area of Alta Langa PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Cuneo, Asti and Alessandria, in the Piedmont region.

Blends

Spumante Bianco (including Riserva), Spumante Rosé (including Riserva): min. 90% Pinot Nero, Chardonnay, individually or combined. Other non-aromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be combined, maximum 10%.

Description of product typologies

Alta Langa PDO Spumante is straw-yellow in colour, with golden reflections; the foam is very fine and the perlage persistent; it displays light fruity notes of the base wine, spices, roasted dried fruit and bread crust on the nose; it is fresh and sapid on the palate, with a slightly bitter taste of grapefruit and a balsamic aftertaste. Riserva can be displayed on the label.Alta Langa PDO Spumante Rosé is pink in colour, varying in intensity, with persistent and fine foam; it exhibits a fragrant and complex scent on the nose, typical of fermentation in bottles; it is sapid, fine and harmonious on the palate. Riserva can be displayed on the label.For Alta Langa PDO Spumante and Alta Langa PDO Spumante Rosé, the production process must not be less than 30 months, including aging carried out by the wine producer. For the Riserva, the process must not last less than 36 months. For both typologies, the length of the process commences on the date on which the grapes were produced.
